Dear Sir
I received your letter to[line ends] day. It must have been delayed and although I wrote to you only Saturday I hasten to answer and thank you for the interest you have taken in my enterprise. I think that with the recommends you will send me and Orville Platts that I can get a permit[?] ????? of the Col. I think it is a contemptible spirit for the Col to ???? refusing to help any one in his Regt to get promotion whatever his reasons may be. I thought you were only going to stay a week in New Milford.. You must have had a good time. George Lyman wrote that you were to have a Yacht up from N. Y. I had a boys letter from Romey the other day he seems to enjoy the new business and he must be in the midst of excitement all the while spiced undoubtedly with a little ????? which is the life of the Soldier. The men of have been studying with me are both sick and have not[page ends] studied any for a week. I am as well as a fish and have got along very well in the tactics and other studies. The only trouble is a dont [too faint to read] much time outside Drills General Duty and the like . Since I have been engaged in the business I have been to see a Colored Regt which is in Camp this side the River and they appear full[?] as well as any troops for what I see.
Give my love to all.
Yours Truly
