Dedication of this Project
William Smith is a member of the Gunnery community who is perhaps
more connected to the history of Washington than any other citizen. He
was an esteemed history teacher at the Gunnery for many years, and
continues to play an important part in the community as a librarian and
with the crew program. His volunteer work has become a foundation for
the Gunn Memorial Museum as it enters into the Civil War history of
Washington. As a transcriber of letters and a historical advisor, he
has been an integral part of this project, and all Gunn Scholar projects
preceding and subsequent. Because of his dedication to history, his
esteemed role in the making of this book, and his good humor, we
dedicate this website, Letters from Charley Goodyear, to William Smith,
Faculty Emeritus.
